Winners of the Urban Up 3.0 Hackathon Announced: Innovative Solutions for the Future of Municipalities

The Urban Up 3.0 Hackathon, an event that brought together 20 talented teams, concluded with exciting results as the winners presented groundbreaking solutions aimed at addressing municipal challenges, with a special focus on Al-Bireh Municipality. The competition, which took place on Wednesday, February 26, was a showcase of creativity, innovation, and technology, with participants developing pioneering ideas to improve urban life in Palestine.

Congratulations to the top three winners:

First Place: The Sanitor
The first-place winner, The Sanitor, introduced an innovative, cost-effective, preventive device designed to tackle issues in sewage infrastructure. Equipped with an array of sensors including pressure, level, flow, and obstacle detection, this device features an AI-powered camera that identifies potential blockages and flooding in sewage systems. With its real-time data and 4TB of storage, The Sanitor ensures sustainable sewage regulation and offers scalable solutions for municipalities. The future integration of AI will further enhance its detection and maintenance capabilities, revolutionizing urban infrastructure management.

Second Place: Green Palestine
Green Palestine earned second place with a unique approach to environmental and urban development challenges. Their initiative focuses on recycling plastic bottles to create shelters, which will serve as waiting areas in public spaces. By transforming plastic waste into functional, eco-friendly structures, the project addresses waste management issues while promoting sustainability and cleanliness in urban environments. Green Palestine is a testament to how creative recycling practices can contribute to a greener, cleaner future.

Third Place: Baladiyeti
Baladiyeti, the third-place winner, developed a smart application aimed at enhancing public services and improving communication between citizens and municipalities. The app integrates services such as service requests, appointment bookings, and reporting issues. Featuring an interactive map, Baladiyeti displays real-time data on infrastructure status, ongoing maintenance projects, and traffic conditions. By utilizing digital transformation and digital twin technology, the app seeks to optimize urban planning and transportation systems, providing citizens with a more transparent, accessible, and efficient municipal experience.

The winning teams were awarded prizes and, more importantly, their solutions will be adopted by Al-Bireh Municipality. These innovative ideas will also be incubated by Palestine Techno Park, which will offer continuous support to ensure successful implementation and the broader impact of these projects.
